Would it be hypocritical to be enlightened and still have earthly goals in life?

No. Enlightenment is not withdrawal from earthly goals, it’s a very deep realization that all goals (earthly or spiritual) are empty. It might sound counter-intuitive to you, but it’s not.

If you’re playing tennis with your friend, purely for fun, you still have a goal of hitting the ball each time. If the game is just entertainment for you, you can’t, strictly speaking, care if you win or lose it, but you still aim at the ball. Why? Because it’s fun. The game is empty, but it’s fun. On some level you aim to win, but on a much deeper level you don’t care at all if you do.

The biggest illusion the mind creates is that meaning creates fulfillment. No. Meaning rids you of all the joy of life. As soon as it’s meaningful to you to be the winner of the match, the game stops being fun and becomes stressful.

If you care only because it’s fun to care, that’s enlightenment. If you care because it’s not fun not to care, that’s human condition.
