What has caused people to become so sensitive and easily offended?
Ego is always sensitive and easily offended, but there are degrees of problems. When you need to work 12 hours a day to have your ends meet, you won’t care too much about manspreading. The more comfortable and trouble-free your actual life becomes the more insignificant and trivial things ego will find offense with. Which is why, even though our standard of living continuously rise, our levels of happiness do not. Fear, pain, hatred, anxiety all need to find its outlet somewhere. 30 years ago the primary outlet was family. Now young people live mostly alone, so for a lot of folks, it’s the Internet. Something must serve as an outlet, otherwise it just starts to chew at itself. Which isn’t such a bad thing, if you think about it, but that’s exactly why we’re seeing a depression epidemic.
Unfortunately, there are too few people who really understand what it’s all about and very few listen to them. We are a very, very long way away from even beginning to contemplate brining enlightenment to the masses - there’s just too much fear in the society. LSD is a Schedule I drug and the number one priority for any depression treatment is to drag the person back to society by any means necessary and as soon as possible. There are some very minor attempts at changing the approach, but it’s far, far from mainstream. I’d say give it at least 100 years or so before any visible change will take place, maybe more, maybe much more. It’s hard to say.
