Is happiness really at odds with the pursuit of knowledge?

There are two types of knowledge.

One is the knowledge about the outside world, and it has nothing to do with happiness.

Another is self-knowledge, and all misery and unhappiness comes from not knowing oneself, being confused about oneself. Knowing oneself leads to clarity and knowledge of others.

The dreaming mind routinely confuses these two types of knowledge and mistakenly thinks that gaining more knowledge about the outside world, or about other people will lead to greater happiness. It never does. Knowing oneself can only happen experientially, not analytically, it happens by making the contents of your unconscious mind conscious, by being more open and honest with yourself about what you feel and what you want, it has nothing to do with analyzing the outside world or yourself on the level of conscious thought. This leads to happiness, whereas analysis of unhappiness does not.
