In self-realization, the drop falls into the ocean, and you can’t find the drop anymore. So all the descriptions such as “the drop and the ocean are one”, “you are nothing and you are everything” come from a self-realized state, but not enlightenment. The drop becomes the ocean. It’s a state of consciousness, it’s recognizable.

In enlightenment, the ocean drops back into the drop, and you can’t find the ocean anymore. There is no more “everything”, no more “nothing”, no oneness, no ocean, no drop. Both the ocean and the drop disappear. It’s not a state of consciousness, so it’s not recognizable. You’re just an ordinary human being leading an ordinary life, just without any illusions and delusions about what it is and how it ends, including the one that there was ever the drop and there was ever the ocean.
