Has anyone suffered a dark night of the soul and overcome it through complete surrender?
Yes, of course. That’s basically what enlightenment is. But notice how you put it - “overcome through complete surrender”. How can you “overcome” what you surrender to? There’s no overcoming in surrender.
If you’re suffering through what seems to be a dark night of the soul, surrender means surrendering to your emotions, to your despair, to your suffering, to your pain. Allowing yourself to experiencing everything that is there.
There might be suicidal thoughts, and allowing yourself to have them without doing anything is key. Just watch. Don’t judge, don’t compare. Don’t do anything. Take care of your body, to the extent that you can. Don’t damage your body. Suicide or self-harm is the opposite of surrender - it’s an attempt to escape, an act of rebellion. As in “I can’t take it anymore!”
You can. Just eat, breathe, poop and watch. It’s all just for show.
