Was Buddha truly enlightened? His compassion makes me feel otherwise.
The compassion of a Buddha is not ordinary compassion. It is a cool compassion, unemotional. Paradoxically, lack of compassion as an emotional response leads to the highest compassion in action. Buddhas have infinite compassion for you as the body, for you as life, but they have zero compassion for your ego. They will never harm you, but they will hurt your ego with their love. For as long as you identify with it, it may appear as if they’re hurting you, but this is an illusion. They want nothing but your deepest happiness and freedom.
