Ego is not bad. There’s nothing inherently bad about it. It just suffers, that’s all it does. There is no difference between ego of a bad, immoral person and ego of a good, moral one - they suffer the same.

For as long as you want to be a separate individual with a purpose you will suffer, because you are resisting merging with existence in oneness. Existence cannot have a purpose and existence doesn’t suffer.

To merge with existence one first needs to recognize, see and accept his ego in its own perfection, but postulating it isn’t the same as doing it, because most people have a lot of stuff about themselves they secretly hate.
