Does man have an innate sense of what is good and what is bad?
Yes, of course, but people don’t listen to it, they listen instead to what society tells them is good and bad. And society tells them that words matter, insults matter, respect matters, social status matters, others’ opinions of you matter, your contribution to society matters. And we create laws and religions, which then become the only way to resolve the conflict between all this and what really matters.
The truth is, none of this stuff matters. Your body is the only thing that matters and on some level, you know that biology runs much deeper than society. Once you realize that, it will never occur to you to hurt someone for money, power or prestige, be offended at anyone for literally anything, hold a grudge or think of yourself superior to anyone because we all have more or less the same bodies.
There’s a great scene in the movie “K-Pax”:
- But without laws, how would we know right from wrong?
- Every being in the Universe knows right from wrong, what’s wrong with you people?
That summarizes it pretty well.
