Why is it often harder to treat ourselves kindly than to treat others with kindness?

Because we don’t know how to love ourselves and replace it with superficial kindness to others, hoping that in return they will love us.

The art of loving yourself is called meditation and it’s nothing more than just being with yourself, alone, in silence. One would think “how hard can it be?” Well, try it, and see. Chances are, it will be pretty hard. What does it say about how much love you have for yourself, if it’s hard for you to just be alone not doing anything? So you step over your discomfort and practice. All you’re doing in meditation is love.

And the more you are capable of loving yourself, the more you will be capable of loving others, because it’s one and the same.

And then ultimately, when your love to yourself reaches a certain level, you might just understand the meaning of life. It is the only way to.

Buddha said: “Love yourself and watch”. Nothing else is needed.
