What professions have the most egotistical people?
As a rule (there are exceptions to every rule):
Politicians
Wall Street investment bankers
Large corporate CEOs
Movie and pop stars
Military generals and high ranking officers at organizations like CIA, NSA etc.
Not always but still quite often: police, judges, prison wardens etc. There are still, thankfully, many dedicated people in police and justice system whose aim is to serve, even though they are usually blind to the cruelty and inhumanity of the system they are part of.
Obviously, violent criminals and especially members and leaders of organized crime.
Now, being egotistical has nothing to do with how well they do their craft. Most people who achieve high levels of success in each of these areas know, love and do their work very, very well, often times exceptionally, extraordinary well. That’s why they are successful. So, it has nothing to do with their level of competence.
It merely has to do with how much of their efforts are driven by their egos and not love, how much of their dedication to their success has been, and continues to be driven by their insecurities, by their suffering. As a consequence, how many blind spots, illusions and delusions about life their minds still harbor, and how destructive to the well-being of others they can be if they are not kept in check, given too much influence, looked upon as an authority or a role model, become moralistic, or not demanded total transparency and accountability for their actions.
