Can someone be depressed and enlightened at the same time?

No, absolutely not. Only ego can get depressed. An enlightened being can get sad, for sure, but it’s fleeting, it’s like sadness of a child - one minute he’s crying and the next one he’s laughing again. Can a three year old be depressed? I don’t think so.

If you are depressed, but think you’re enlightened, the very first thing to do is stop thinking you’re enlightened. The more you think of yourself as enlightened, the harder it will be for you to accept life for what it is. Asking this question comes from the place of resisting the experience of depression. Accept the experience of depression. Don’t do anything stupid, such as hurting your body, but accept the despair and anxiety. The sooner you will accept them the sooner they will pass. They will, I promise you.

Don’t think about enlightenment. When enlightenment comes you will know because you will have no more questions. For now, just try to accept whatever is.
