Is the absence of hate love or indifference?
Love is indifferent. If you’re not emotionally indifferent to what you love, you depend on it, and you will hate it for it. So, the utter and complete absence of hate, which is only possible in enlightenment, is the highest form of love, yes.
Only when you don’t depend on someone to make you happy you can truly love them, because only then you can give them what they need from you, without trying to take something from them in return.
As the old saying goes, “if you like the flower, you will pluck it, but if you love the flower, you will water it”.
Watering the flower is the act of unconditional love, plucking the flower to bring it home is the act of hate which is coming from the need to get something from the flower.
