What does Nisargadatta mean when he said deny yourself nothing?

Read original publication

For as long as you are denying yourself something, you are not free.

Denying yourself is judging yourself. Denying yourself means you want to do something but think you “shouldn’t”. While you judge yourself, you will judge other people who do the thing you think “should not be done”, so you cannot become one with them. You are separated from them by the illusion that you are better than them because you don’t do that thing you want to do. By denying yourself you elevate yourself above others in your mind.

Deny yourself nothing. You cannot become enlightened before you truly lived.
