Are teachings on enlightenment that reduce to "You are already enlightened" of any use to anybody?

No. There’s a world of difference between the separated state, the realized state and the enlightened state. The difference in how life is experienced and perceived is tremendous.

Yes, it is true that once you’re enlightened you realize that you have always been enlightened, but it’s only because you see that the rest was all imaginary, which is to say, not real. So you kinda have lived your whole life in the enlightened state, but with a huge pile of imaginary stuff constantly spinning on top of the very simple reality. From this perspective, enlightenment does not diminish your existing life experience. Yes, I have always been enlightened but to say that this mountain of imaginary stuff didn’t affect my experience of life would be absurd.

“Everyone is enlightened” is a similar statement. It is a statement from a realized place, from the place of non-duality. But it’s not an accurate statement. Yes, when you’re enlightened, everyone is enlightened to you, meaning that you know that they live in the same reality as you do, just like you yourself have always been, and from this perspective there is no difference between them and you. But it doesn’t mean all that imaginary stuff that used to spin in your head suddenly stopped spinning in theirs also, so they still do silly things and behave in a supremely weird and irrational manner. You accept it, because you understand it, and it cannot bother you no longer, but it does not mean that you don’t recognize it when they speak about it or act it out, you do. You’re just at peace with it, because there’s no other reality to escape to. There’s only one reality for all of us, very few people live in it only, most people live in the deep and vivid imagination of their minds on top of it.
