Why is spiritual awakening so painful?

Because truth is the only thing that can possibly hurt you.

You are a wonderful, beautiful, amazing human being. Does it hurt? No. Because it’s a lie.

You are a wretched, disgusting, bitter and envious person. Does it hurt? Probably. Because it’s true.

Ultimately it is not true also, but on some level you believe it, and this is why it hurts. Pain happens when you hear or see some hidden truths about yourself, this is the only way it happens. Once the truth is accepted, it does not hurt anymore. If you are completely true to yourself, there can be no more pain.

Most awake people aren’t truly awake, because they accepted their goodness, but they can’t accept their badness - too much pain. They stopped believing the bad stuff they were telling to themselves about themselves, but they still believe the good stuff they are telling to themselves about themselves. So they hide their badness, they cover it with their goodness and not willing to look deeper.

In true awakening, you accept it all, and when you do, you won’t be neither good nor bad. You won’t believe either. You’ll just be. And then you won’t be.

And the only way it’s possible is through self-love. Loving acceptance is the only way. No one will accept you in your entirety - only you can. Only you can stop judging yourself, others always will. That’s why only you can make this journey, alone.
