What is the difference between ego and self-esteem?

Read original publication

None. Ego is self-esteem, and self-esteem is ego. High self-esteem is a big, happy, positive ego and low self-esteem is a sad, grumpy and depressed ego. Happy egos just looooove to hurt sad egos, but of course they wouldn’t admit it. Sad egos would looooove to be like happy egos, but they secretly hate them for their sadism, and of course they wouldn’t admit it either. Happy egos think sad egos cannot enjoy life and bring their negativity everywhere, and they are correct. Sad egos think happy egos are not “real”, that their positivity is fake, and they are correct also. Both secretly think that they are better people than the opposite.

Which is why the latest psychological research points out that it’s unproductive to focus on self-esteem for one’s emotional well-being, and advises to focus on self-compassion instead. The more compassionate you are to yourself, whether you have a high or low self-esteem, the more compassionate you are to others, regardless of their self-esteem. Then self-esteem as a concept begins to slowly dissolve and you stop playing this game of who’s better than whom. In other words, whether you’re in plus, or in minus, you start moving into the direction of the true resting point - zero.

Self-esteem is junk. Compassion and acceptance is the key to happy life.
